Teaching our Kids Healthy Eating

Spoons Across America at Kingsborough Community Center

One of FDC’s greatest strengths is our amazing team leaders across all of our sites. This week, we’re excited to highlight Cesar Hernandez, Program Director at Kingsborough Community Center. Under Cesar’s leadership, the kids at Kingsborough had an incredible experience this summer learning about healthy eating through our partnership with Spoons Across America. The program provided hands-on cooking and nutrition lessons.

“I’ve been collaborating with Spoons Across America since 2017 when I first connected with founder James Grosso during my time as a group leader at Grand Street Settlement. This summer, I was thrilled to reconnect with him, and he generously provided all the necessary resources for free, including cooking equipment and kid-friendly tools. My role was to teach the classes and follow the provided recipes, making the experience both seamless and rewarding.”  César Hernandez

Thanks to Cesar’s dedication, even more exciting programs are coming to Kingsborough. This fall, we’ve partnered with RiseUp to lead Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities for our students, starting next week. RiseUp will also offer weekly workshops for single parents on weekday mornings, beginning in January 2025, and will provide activities and resources for the elderly on Saturdays starting that same month.

We’re equally thrilled to share that the Fulton Art Fair will be conducting art sessions for our elementary students and evening programs every Tuesday!

These impactful programs are made possible by generous donations from supporters like you. Please consider making a donation today—any amount helps!  Support our FDC families!
