Our Programs
What we do
FDC helps a diverse and vibrant community access opportunities and realize their dreams through a combination of housing, economic development, and youth-centered initiatives. These programs include a mix of tenant organizing and advocacy; youth development programs, and direct social service case management. FDC has long been a partner fighting for equity, positive community change, and a more just city.
FDC’s Family & Youth Programs provide positive social and academic learning opportunities to promote independence, self-confidence, creativity, and civic awareness among the Flatbush community. FDC programs bridge daytime learning with the after-school environment, working with staff, parents, students, school, and community partners to ensure our youth access opportunities and realize their dreams.
The Coalition is a group of Tenant associations that work together to build Tenant power. FTC educates tenants on their rights and how to organize in ways to make change. Together, we create a more just society.
FDC works with residents on many different housing initiatives, including creating and maintaining tenant associations, working with tenants to take part in city and state-wide housing campaigns, tracking and monitoring buildings at risk of deterioration, advocating on behalf of tenants in housing court, providing individual assistance to tenants in need of other services; and hosting housing forums to support renters and homeowners.
FDC supports its diverse small businesses in the Ditmas Park-Flatbush area to revitalize, beautify, and bring greater economic opportunity to neighbors of all income levels. We invest in growing businesses by making streets safer and cleaner; provide high-quality services that connect businesses with financial services and navigating government regulations.
