Community Service
Giving Back to the Community!Community Service is organized by Ditmas FDC Youth Council Chapter. To support the community the Youth Council addresses the needs of the community by conducting a community need assessment. While conducting their assessment the Youth Council developed community projects for the year. Some community Service activities consist of but not limited to an ongoing food drive, Holiday food giveaway, cleaning up the community, planting, and back-to-school events.
From time to time, the Ditmas Junior School organizes special events to give back to the community around us. Two of the more recent ones are:
Annual Thanksgiving Giveaways
We reach out to the families in need at Ditmas and we provide them with Thanksgiving-related food. Last year (2020) proved to be extra challenging as everything was shut down due to the ongoing pandemic. Our Director, April Davis, ordered the food to be delivered to the school’s office, where we packed the bags (that were decorated with pictures the kids had come up with) and delivered them to people’s houses.
Canned Food Drive
This is a partnership with the Christ Apostolic Church. They feed the community (they have a food pantry) twice a week (every Tuesday and every other Saturday). Our kids will reach out to their parents and our staff to provide canned foods. We help collect the food and deliver it to the church.
